My name is Sophie Cannon and I am a sophomore at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. I am a journalism major with proposed minors in international affairs, English and political science. I am currently the managing editor at the Huntington News, the independant newspaper of the Northeastern community, and the managing editor and head copy editor of Artistry Magazine, Northeastern’s art and culture magazine. I am from a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and after growing sick of the snow and Midwestern twang, I came out to Boston and have loved every second of it. Before Boston, however, I decided to take a break from the Twin Cities, and spent a semester of my junior year of high school abroad in Israel at the Alexander Muss High School. That trip inspired my passion for travel and embracing culture shock and I have had the travel bug ever since. Aside from Israel, I have visited Poland, India (where I helped film a documentary about feminism) and most recently Greece. While in Greece, I participated in a five-week journalism intensive where I reported on Greek culture and the refugee crisis. In the past, I have written for publications such as MinnPost out of Minneapolis, the Head of the Charles River regatta website, Introspxct Magazine, New England Newspaper and Press Association e-Bulletin and my high school publication Zephyrus.
